Madden and Randy went camping by Logan last Thursday. Randy's family has been camping/hunting there for 2 weeks. Randy just went the last 2 days to help everyone come back. The 2 of them went for a 4-wheeler ride. While riding they ran over a log, well the log flipped up and a branch drove into Maddden's snow boot and into his foot. Randy pulled it out, wrapped his foot in a hat, drove 1 handed back to camp, grabbed his Mom (she is an EMT), and headed for the nearest ER. That was in Preston. They cleaned it up and took x-rays, then they called me! I hate the phone call that starts, "Don't worry everyone is ok". He has 3 broken and exposed bones in his foot. They were trying to get him back this way, but no doctors up here were comfortable working on it. They ended up sending Randy and Madden to Primary Children's. The rest of the kids and I jumped in the car as fast as we could and headed down. My parents met Randy and the hospital and my Dad helped Randy give Madden a blessing. I got there just in time to see him for a minute before they took him into surgery. I was not prepared for just how aweful it looked. They found all pieces there, they just had to put them back where they belonged and stitched it up. He was in surgery for an hour, and the Orthopedic Surgeon was relieved that it went as well as it did. 2 bones were clean breaks and his big toe was shattered. We spent 2 days and 2 night there with antibiotics being pumped into his IV. We are all expecting him to make a full recovery, thank goodness!
So tonight I am so thankful for so many things:
a powerful priesthood blessing,
lots of answered prayers,
doctors and nurses that know how to fix little people,
family that dropped everything to help.
friends that are still taking care of us,
a baby that decided not to be born this weekend,
and all my kids safe and sound at home!
he had to keep it elevated and iced the whole time!
My Mom, who took care of the other 3 kids, brought them up to see Madden. They have so much swine flu at the hosptial that they couldn't even come in, but we got permission to take him out for a minute to see them. They brought him all kinds of treasures!
He loved being in this little wheel chair, he was wheeling it by himself the first day!
This was the first night, he was so miserable!

I don't even know what to say. The poor little guy. What a crazy, odd thing to happen. We will remember him in our prayers. He is such a sweet boy!
How horrible! I am glad he is going to be okay. I think it is the worst feeling to sit in the waiting room while your baby is having surgery! I hope they are going to give him a "special" cast to lift his spirits. Let us know if you need anything.
We are truly blessed as a family!
It was a wild weekend but in so many ways it was unbelievably great!
Love you guys so much!

What a tough little kid! Glad he is home and doing a little better!
I'm so glad he's ok and you and the baby are too! How stressful and scary that must've been!
2 weeks to go! I hope you're feeling ok after all that.
Poor Madden. I am so sorry. Hope all is going well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you guys!!
